Do you reside in a dirt free village?

Gandagi Mukt Mera Gaon

Dirt-free villages are a prerequisite of the nation as more than 70% of India's population resides in villages. Cleanliness and sanitation were closest to Gandhiji's heart. He gave us freedom, we should give him a clean nation. 'I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet' is one of the great sayings of Mahatma Gandhi.

Cleanliness not only means dirt-free surrounding but also an optimistic mind and spirit. Garbage and dirt are a menace, they demolish the aesthetic allurement of the surroundings and bring on the malady. Littering is plain barbarism.

We have not stopped walking and the finish line is near. 'Gandagi Mukt Mera Gaon' is an appreciable approach of the government for cleanliness. On 2 October 2014, the nationwide 'Swachh Bharat' mission was enthusiastically launched. 36 states and union territories, 766 districts, and over 603,175 villages have been declared open defecation free as on January 2020.

There is a need for a few more stringent measures to be taken. Awareness programs and cleanliness drives should be launched in rural areas. Government should ensure that villages are open defecation-free, people have access to safe drinking water, and a proper waste management system should be established. People should be encouraged to carry small cloth bags with them and avoid plastics. Garbage should be segregated, composting should be encouraged, and it will also provide the farmers with manure. Personal hygiene etiquettes should be taken care of. Soiled hands are massive carriers of germs and especially during the breakdown of the corona pandemic people should be encouraged to frequently wash their hands with soap or sanitizer and a maintain clean environment. Cleanliness should be the rallying cry of the entire nation.
